Admission Factors

The following transfer admission factors are considered in the review of transfer applications:

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 with a preferred minimum cumulative GPA of 2.80.
  • Grade patterns over time, including overall GPA, term GPA, and number of withdrawals.
  • Presence of any major-related courses and grades in those courses.
  • An especially challenging pattern of coursework.
  • Completion of all high school course preparation requirements.
  • If fewer than 26 college credits completed at the time of application CDes will also review high school record.
  • Quality of application supplement and fit for the major.
  • Space in the major. Note: some majors are more competitive than others.
  • Extenuating circumstances: Contact a CDes Prospective Student Adviser for more information.
  • If your application became complete after the priority deadline, admission is based on space left in the major, if any. Please note: some majors may close after the priority deadline.

Note: Please refer to the architecture degrees for additional admission requirements and details.

Meet with a CDes Adviser: Be sure to talk to a CDes prospective student adviser so you understand how long it will take to finish the program after admission. Refer to the Transferring Credit Web page for detailed information on transferring in design classes from other schools.

Notification of Admission: Notification of admission for Pre Architecture, Landscape Design and Planning and Housing Studies majors will take place on a rolling basis. Notification of admission for Pre Apparel Design, Pre Graphic Design, Pre Interior Design and Retail Merchandising will take place in early April for fall term.
